The Basics

FACES AND DEUCES is a fast-paced, fun card game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages. The goal is to score points by matching either faces or suits of cards. The player who accumulates the most points at the end of the game wins!

To begin, each player is dealt five cards. The rest of the cards are placed face down in the middle of the players, and one card is turned over to start the discard pile. The player to the left of the dealer begins the game by playing any card from their hand. The next player then plays a card, either matching the previous card in terms of face or suit, or playing another number/suit if they don't have anything that matches. If they can't play a card, they must draw from the deck until they can play.

The objective is to discard all of your cards as quickly as possible. When you play a card, if it matches the previous card either in terms of face or suit, you keep it in your hand and get another turn. If it doesn't match, it goes into the discard pile. Play then passes to the next player who must play a card from their hand.

Scoring Points

There are several ways to score points in FACES AND DEUCES:

1) When you play your final card and there are no more cards left in either players' hands, that player scores 2 points for each Ace they have (Aces are worth 1 point each). If both players run out of cards on the same turn, the player with more Aces scores bonus points equal to the difference between both players' scores (e.g., Player A has 2 Aces and Player B has 1 Ace => 3 points for Player A).

2) If you play all five cards in one turn, you score 5 points bonus (or 10 points if both players run out on the same turn).

3) Matching either faces or suits on cards scored 1 point each; however, there is a special scoring rule for when you match an Ace with another Ace: get an extra point for each Ace matched (so 2 points instead of 1).

4) At any time during gameplay if four consecutive cards are played in sequence (either ascending or descending), that player gets an immediate bonus 4 points (this includes wraps i.e. J-Q-K-A = 4 points).

5) The last player to take a turn also gets bonus 2 points added to their final score (this includes Kneelers i.e. going out with only 1 card remaining).

6) There are also Joker wildcards which can be substituted for any other number/suit as needed – when played, these earn an immediate 3 point bonus added to your final score.

So how do all these scoring rules add up? Check out this example: Player A starts off with 5 cards: 3-2-6-Q-J Player B starts off with 5 cards: 7-5-4-3-2 The first three turns look like this:

Player A plays 6 -> Player B plays 7 -> Player A plays Q Player B plays 5 -> Player A draws 1 -> Player B plays 3

At this point Player A has 0 cards left while Player B still has 4 cards left. So let's see how their scores break down at this point:

Player A's Score = 2 (for playing 3 & 6) + 0 (Aces are not worth anything yet) = 2 Player B's Score = 7 (for playing 5 & 3) + 4 (1 Ace is worth 4 points so far) = 11

Next two turns look like this:

Player B plays 4 -> Player A draws 1 -> Players B plays 2 At this point both players have run out of cards so lets tally everyone's score up:

Player A's Score = 2 + 0 = 2 Player B's Score = 11 + 4 = 15
